Foundry recommends a 1" J-Channel to be used with the 10" Staggered Shake Siding. This will allow for expansion and contraction. The actual depth of the 10" Staggered Shake varies because some of the shakes on the siding panel stick out more than others. In order for the 10" Staggered Shake to fit in the 1" J-Channel, the maximum depth is a little less than 1".
